Deconstructing the “Hour of Power”

By: Sharran Srivatsaa

What is the Hour of Power? A mystical concept that coaches, trainers, consultants, brokers, owners, and team leaders share with agents to improve their productivity. However, each person has their own DNA and way they do things.

Which leads me to question, is there really good formula for having a great Hour of Power?

Furthermore, what is the goal? To create momentum. We know action drives momentum, and momentum drives results, making it a very healthy thing for our businesses.

Below is my personal formula to gain the greatest momentum during an Hour of Power:

Lead Follow Up. Carve out the first 10 to 15 minutes to follow up with leads. This can include touching base on appointments you recently had, contacting online leads, reaching out to potential buyers from open houses, and more.

As I like to say, what you focus on expands, and what’s better than focusing on new leads? This will create a great base for the remainder of your Hour of Power.

Coffee Meetings. Next, focus on having short, easy meetings with anyone you believe will help boost your business. Meetings like this are vital. First, you get out of the office. Second, you get to put sales into action and utilize your skills. And skills pay your bills. Coffee meetings are essential for gaining an outside perspective on your business and continuing the aforementioned momentum. Aim for at least three to five per week.

Endorsed Introduction. Definition: When somebody introduces you with faith, goodwill, and comradery.

Generally, both parties in this interaction respect and look up to the person making the introduction, as a mentor. This type of introduction can happen anywhere. These people break down all the barriers associated with gaining trust. If you can get one endorsed introduction every week, that is almost 50 endorsed introductions a year!

The multiplying effect of endorsed introductions is unimaginable. Spend 3 to 5 minutes thinking about who can give you an endorsed introduction and who you may be able to give an endorsed introduction to. Make this a part of each Hour of Power.

News. Next, spend time reviewing top news articles and topics to gain knowledge about anything that is impactive. Share this information with someone that reminds you of what you’re reading to connect and add value on a personal level. Remember, the inbox is a very intimate place. Craft two to four emails to close acquaintances, business colleagues, or friends and be sure to personalize each email - never be generic.

Social Media. I recommend you finish with social media. If you start with it, you may end up distracted and unfocused. During the last minutes of your Hour of Power, interact with a few key people on social media. Aim for 5 to 10 thoughtful, personal comments on posts and updates. Try to stay away from low barrier interactions like liking a post as people are more likely to remember a nice comment. Not only is it a simple way for you to make a connection, but it makes people feel that you have an active interest in their lives. (Which I trust you do!)

There you have it, my five steps to an incredible Hour of Power! Now, I’d love to hear from you. What tasks are on your calendar during your hour?
